I had the good fortune to engage as my thoroughbred horse advisor Brett Howard. I retained him to find a good black type mare to add to my breeding stock. He found AIKO, a mare by ROYAL ACADEMY. AIKO had a reasonable record in Perth and she was about to be retired. AIKO had a half brother that was racing in South Africa. I organised a vet examination and transported her from Perth to Sandy Hollow. On Brett’s advice she was bred to CHOISIR in October 2006. In June 2007 it was decided to sell the mare together with our other stock. AIKO’S half brother won a Group 2 race a week before the sale. Brett found this important information and circulated it immediately with his usual vigilance. At the Melbourne sale the mare AIKO fetched a sum of $240,000, having been purchased for $60,000. Brett has a good knowledge of horse values and knows the market. He has judgement, nous as well as good business sense.
