Glenesk Thoroughbreds

The operation
Randwick Bloodstock presently operates a seventy-six acre broodmare farm under the banner “Glenesk Thoroughbreds” at Mount Vincent, 15 minutes south-east of Cessnock, in the lower Hunter Valley. The farm is managed by Rachael Howard. The farming arm of the operation was initially established in 2008 at Randwick Bloodstock’s original property at nearby Quorrobolong. The Mount Vincent property was purchased in 2016 and operations have continued there since that time. Each breeding season the farm walks out approximately 25 mares to the Upper Hunter stallion farms. Since commencement our annual mare pregnancy rate is running at over 90%.
Should you be considering listing a filly or mare for sale with Randwick Bloodstock, in order to help us provide a more effective sales service for you, we provide our vendors with the option to agist their horses on our property during the selling process. The property is perfectly located to accommodate visits by racehorse breeders, owners, trainers and agents, being exactly half way between the Sydney CBD and Scone, and in close proximity to Newcastle and the Central Coast.
In 2015 Glenesk Thoroughbreds commenced consigning drafts to both the annual Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and the William Inglis & Son Chairman’s Sale. We have had great success for many of our vendors, recording over $34 million in sales, setting sales records, and consistently being near the top of each sale’s average sale prices. 2023
2023 continued the upward trajectory of Glenesk Thoroughbreds’ auction consignments with Group 1 winner NIMALEE (by SO YOU THINK) topping the Inglis Chairman’s Sale – to give us back to back top priced sellers at the sale after SHOUT THE BAR 12 months earlier. Selling for a sale-record $3.6m, the Lester and Margaret Durney raced mare went the way of Colm Santry Bloodstock and Coolmore Australia.
Having also purchased Nimalee as a yearling filly through Randwick Bloodstock Agency from the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, it was a great achievement for all concerned to see the young mare record such an outstanding result.
Knocked down to FBAA member Neil Jenkinson, the dual Group 2 winner ELECTRIC GIRL (DECLARATION OF WAR) realised a final price of $520,000, while Star Thoroughbreds’ JOVIALITY (I AM INVINCIBLE) sold to Yulong Farm for $375,000.
Selling six at the sale, we finished the sale as a leading consignor on average (3 or more sold), achieving an average price of $895,833!
A few weeks later at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, our consignment of 11 mares was topped by the dual Listed winner ALL BANTER (I’M ALL THE TALK) who was purchased in foal to Widden Stud’s TRAPEZE ARTIST for $460,000 by Murray Thoroughbreds and Boomer Bloodstock.
All at Glenesk Thoroughbreds would like to thank our clients who entrusted us with their stock throughout the season.
2022
2022 was a year to remember for Glenesk Thoroughbreds’ auction consignments. Kicking off at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in early May with a draft of 5 horses, dual Group 1 winner SHOUT THE BAR (by NOT A SINGLE DOUBT) created history, selling to Coolmore Stud for a Chairman’s Sale record price of $2.7 million. SHOUT THE BAR wasn’t the only mare to star in our draft, as she was ably assisted by KEYSBROOK, the dam of recent Group 1 winning 2-year-old SHE’S EXTREME, selling to Kia Ora Stud for $825,000. Glenesk Thoroughbreds finished the sale as the leading vendor on average (3 or more sold) with a mind boggling figure of $988,750!
A few weeks later at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Glenesk Thoroughbreds presented another high quality draft of 10 mares. For the second year running at the National Sale we were able to reach the magical million dollar mark with two mares. Leading the charge in 2022 was the imported stakes winner EASTON ANGEL (by DARK ANGEL) (in foal to FRANKEL), who was knocked down for $1.35 million to Yu Long Investments. A day earlier in the race fillies and mares section of the catalogue, we achieved another fantastic result for our clients with Group 2 winning broodmare prospect SWIFT WITNESS (by STAR WITNESS) selling for $1 million to Dermot Farrington (acting on behalf of Gilgai Farm). Glenesk Thoroughbreds finished the sale as the third leading vendor on average (3 or more sold) with a very solid figure of $435,000.
2021
At the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in late May, Glenesk Thoroughbreds had its most successful sale to date, selling not one $1 million+ mare, but two. On top was Group 1 winner BELLA VELLA (by COMMANDS), selling to Victorian operation Rosemont Stud for a record (for us) $1.9 million. Our second top price was $1.35 million for Group 2 winner FIESTA (by I AM INVINCIBLE), also purchased by Rosemont Stud. Glenesk Thoroughbreds finished as the sale’s third leading vendor (on average) and with gross sales of just over $4.4 million (another record – for us). Once again, a very large thank you to all our vendors and purchasers for their support.
2020
On the 8th May, due to the current restrictions in place from the COVID-19 outbreak, William Inglis & Son conducted their second Virtual Auction in recent weeks. This time it was to offer just over 80 select broodmares and broodmare prospects at the Chairman’s Sale. Glenesk Thoroughbreds were well represented with nearly 15% of the catalogue (11 lots). On sale night we were able to sell 10 of the 11 mares, with a top price of $800,000 for the Group 2 winner/Group 1 placed NOIRE (by FOXWEDGE) (pictured below), purchased by leading Japanese breeder Katsumi Yoshida. The next morning we were able to complete the sale of the Group 3 winner THINK BLEUE (by SO YOU THINK) to Newgate Farm for $340,000, hence, bringing our clearance rate to 100%, against the sale’s overall clearance rate of 64%. The sale of THINK BLEUE increased our sale aggregate to $3.2 million, making Glenesk Thoroughbreds the sale’s leading consignor on aggregate. To read more on the sale please click here.
2019
At the 2019 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Glenesk Thoroughbreds draft grossed close to $2 million, making us one of the sale’s leading consignors (on aggregate). Amongst the farms with larger drafts (10+ lots catalogued), we were one of the few farms to achieve a clearance rate of over 90%. Highlights from our draft including selling the Stakes Placed mares TEST THE WORLD (by TESTA ROSSA) and CYMBALISM (by DENMAN) for $270,000 and $220,000 respectively.
2018
At the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Glenesk Thoroughbreds was once again a prominent Consignor, finishing in the Top 10 Vendors on Average (6 or more sold) for the fourth consecutive year. Importantly for our clients, our team achieved a 100% clearance rate for the 9 mares which we offered for sale, and grossed $2,080,000. Without doubt the highlight of our sale was selling Group 2 winner FRENCH EMOTION (by SNITZEL) for $850,000 to Widden Stud and Partners.

2017
The 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale kicked off with a bang for Glenesk Thoroughbreds with a 100% Day 1 clearance rate and the leading average price for all vendors.

Highlights included the sales of INSPIRED ESTELLE (by MANHATTAN RAIN), a 1/2 sister to Champion LANKEE RUPEE, which sold for $925,000 to the bid of China Horse Club; Listed Race winner SHAKESPEAREAN LASS (by WRITTEN TYCOON) selling to Aquis Farm for $360,000; and the sale of Group 1 winner MISS COVER GIRL (by MONASHEE MOUNTAIN) to Dermot Farrington Bloodstock for $500,000.
At the completion of the auction, Glenesk Thoroughbreds had sold 12 horses for an aggregate of $2,647,500, at an average price of $220,675 – the highest for any consignor (10 or more lots sold).
Focused on delivering a quality boutique broodmare draft, we would like to thank all those who have supported us in realising this milestone and establishing Glenesk Thoroughbreds as a premier consignor of broodmares.
2016
Glenesk Thoroughbreds sells last start Group 1 winning race filly PRECIOUS GEM (by ECONSUL) for $825,000 to China Horse Club at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. At the completion of the sale our select consignment averaged $196,875 for 8 lots sold – ranking us in the top 5 consignors by average (5 or more lots sold). Thank you to Millford Thoroughbreds for entrusting us with PRECIOUS GEM and we wish China Horse Club the best of luck with her going forward.

2015
Glenesk Thoroughbred’s inaugural broodmare draft was consigned to the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. Comprising of 8 mares, we ended the sale with 7 sold, and an average sale price of $299,643 – the 2nd highest average at the sale (6 or more sold). Undoubtedly the highlight came for us early on Day 1 when Champion Sprinting filly VILLA VERDE (by NOT A SINGLE DOUBT) sold for $1.1 million to James Bester Bloodstock, acting for Kia-Ora Stud. An amazing result for our first ever lot through the Magic Millions sale ring. Thank you to Robbie Willis and Mike Buys for entrusting your wonderful mare to us, and we wish Kia Ora Stud the very best with her future.
